SAMPLE PROJECT: LED BRACELET | BARRETTE

Step 1: Gather Materials.
  • From the box: silver-plated thread, battery holder, battery, LED
  • You'll also need: flowery hair accessory, sewing needle, hot glue gun
Step 2: Bend LED Legs Sideways. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers, bend the legs of the LED sideways until it can rest flat on a surface. Step 3: Curl LED Legs. Now use the pliers to curl the LED legs outward. This will make it easier to sew the LED to fabric.
Step 4: Hot Glue LED. On the front side of the flower, hot glue the LED in the center. Step 5: Hot Glue Battery Holder. On the back side of the flower, affix the battery holder with hot glue as well. Make sure that the positive side of the battery holder is roughly aligned with the positive side of the LED (and that the negative sides are aligned too). Step 6: Start Sewing LED. Starting with the positive side of the LED (shown here), use the silver-plated thread to sew the LED to the flower.
Step 7: Start Sewing Battery Holder. Without cutting the thread, bring the needle directly to the positive side of the battery holder (on the back side of the flower). Sew a few stitches around the battery holder, tie a knot, and then cut the thread. Step 8: Finish Sewing LED. Repeat steps 6 and 7, sewing the negative sides of the LED and battery holder together. This photo shows the LED once both the positive and negative sides have been sewn. Step 9: Finish Sewing Battery Holder. Pictured here is the battery holder, after both the positive and negative sides have been sewn.
Step 10: Insert Battery. Insert a battery into the battery holder to turn on the LED. Step 11 (Optional): Embellish. Use regular (non-conductive) thread to sew small glass beads around the LED. Step 12: Wear Your Work!
